About Clay-Bourne
The Porcelaine breed has remained very true and has not been genetically or cosmetically played with. This has meant that hereditary prone problems, which one can expect with some breeds, do not affect the well being of the Porcelaine lineage. The short coat means that they are easy to groom and their medium size allows them to fit into a good home easily. These were all sound reasons that appealed to us when considering a hound.
We adored these individual, classic looking hounds with their distinct appearance when we first gazed upon some pictures, that we knew we were destined to hold out for one of our own.
In 2003 after many years of devotion and perseverance we were very proud to introduce the Porcelaine French scent hound to the United Kingdom.
Impressed by our first one, it wasn't long before one became two and the rest as they say is history.
We are not commercial breeders - we are just people who love the breed and feel very privileged to be the custodians and owners of them.
Over the following years we worked towards a breeding programme that would ensure the breed could be developed in a responsible way by closely liasing with award winning kennels and building good friendships, and it was because of them that our first litter was born in 2006.
In naming our puppies we looked to continue the French tradition of naming their litters in any given year with a pre designated letter of the alphabet assigned by the French kennel club. ( You can view a photograph of the first U.K litter on the photographs link from the main menu ).
Our dogs have been home reared in a family environment to enable the puppies to have the best possible start in life, with an abundance of stimulation and love, leaving them to be well equipped to adjust to a new family comfortably and swiftly.
Our kennel name was derived to work with the origins of the Porcelaine hound name in mind, hence Clay - Bourne. We commissioned a web-site where members and enthusiasts could come together under "The House of Porcelaine" club. Here, members can put forward photographs and diary dates for competitions, features and news on a worldwide basis.
We take the responsibility of breeding very seriously. By advising and collating individual requirements allows us to take every care to suitably match the right Porcelaine to the right home whilst still allowing the purchaser a good choice.
In purchasing a Porcelaine hound from us will provide you with the confidence of knowing that you have a well bred, healthy hound of sound nature. You can also feel assured in the knowledge that we provide advice on the breed and after sales contact.
